PocketPOST is a pocket-sized card. It plugs into any expansion slot in an IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 model 25 or 30, Compaq, EISA, or compatible computer.
The latest version PocketPOST is now burnout-proof. That's right! You can plug it in backwards, switch on power, and it won't blow up. That means you get worry-free operation, especially when your motherboard is out of the case and it's hard to tell which way the adapter cards are oriented.
When you switch on the power 4 LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) immediately show whether ±5 and ±12V power is reaching the board. An internal voltmeter and LED shows you whether the voltage level is at least 95% of its rated value. The selection jumper is large enough to grasp easily, and is attached to the board to keep it from getting lost in the computer.
At power-on, the system ROM BIOS (Basic Input Output System) executes its POST (Power-On Self-Test). Just before running each test, the POST sends a test number code to an output test port that PocketPOST monitors.
If the computer hangs during the POST, the failing test number appears on PocketPOST's two-digit hexadecimal display. You look up the meaning of the failing code in the manual, determine what circuit is bad in the system, and you can often repair it easily. PocketPOST will show POST failure information for any computer's BIOS that sends the POST codes to one of PocketPOST 's POST code ports (see specs).
PocketPOST's ACTivity, HI, and LO LEDs show you the status of 9 vital bus signals (see specs), plus ANY other logic signals in the PC. You select the internal signal with a jumper. If it is toggling high and low, the ACTivity LED will be on. If it is high, the HI LED will be on, if low, the LOW LED will be on, and if tri-state, both LEDs will be off. If the jumper is set to select the probe, then you can attach the SuperTech Logic Probe (included) to the jack on the card, and then use the probe to check other circuits in the PC. This helps you quickly pinpoint the cause of catastrophic failures, and do signal tracing throughout the computer. You avoid the waste of expensive oscilloscopes and other test equipment.
PocketPOST is small enough to tuck into your shirt pocket when it's not in use, and it is packed with the logic probe in a compact diskette-sized carrying case. Its edge connector is heavily plated to withstand thousands of insertions in systems you are testing.
PocketPOST comes with robust documentation, including a pocket-sized manual, at least 300 pages, that explains installation and use, and beep and POST codes for all major BIOS makers. It is packed with valuable troubleshooting tips and reference data, and is "Almost worth the price of the board alone." (Computer Shopper). It is a MUST for every technician's tool kit!
